Sometimes to talk about music matters. Here’s a quote that gave me „aha!“: „We wrote a lot of songs together. But when we arranged the album in the end it’s like a journey where you reflect on the good and the bad times, that happened to you. And where you confront yourself with it, instead of walking away from it. It’s like a therapy or a way you must walk to get away from a broken heart and to see that in the end everything will be ok somehow“. Chris Martin, Coldplay, on the new album „Ghost Stories“, May 2014
AntwortenLöschenLyrics are not always about rhyming. Rhymes often leave you with cheap feelings apart from the more distinguished form that aphorisms in their bare way of being a sentence can offer. Love songs often use easy rhymes driven by the chords. Sometimes you can find a clever (aphoristic) one, sometimes they are just a body to fill that helps to get the line. I often feel amused by the way some rhymes simplify those tragic themes or try to avoid or accelerate the tragedy with images of paradises out-of-hell. Some barely rhyme and tax the brain to find a match - rhyme or eat me (Eat my shorts). I picked some of my favourite rhymes and aphorisms in pop music here, I hope you don’t mind.
Hundreds of years in the future
It could be computers
(Looking for life on earth)
Twisted Logic, Coldplay
Ain't no doubt about it, we were doubly blessed
'Cause we were barely seventeen, and we were barely dressed
Paradise By The Dashboard Light, Meat Loaf
And in the end we lie awake
And we dream of making our escape
Death and All His Friends, Coldplay
And you were nothing but a all-American lonely girl
But you were something like a dream come true.
All Revved Up With No Place To Go, Meat Loaf
And my skin is raw but my soul is ripe.
No-one's gonna stop me now,
I gotta make my escape.
Bat Out of Hell, Coldplay
But you've been cold to me so long
I'm crying icicles instead of tears
Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad, Meat Loaf
And all I've got is time
until the end of time.
Let the altars shine.
Heaven can wait, Meat Loaf
On a hot summer night,
would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?
Words right out of my mouth, Meat Loaf
It never felt so good, it never felt so right
And we're glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife
Paradise By The Dashboard Light, Coldplay?
You left the sweetest taste in my mouth
You're a silver lining the clouds
The Hardest Part, Meat Loaf?
Now the sky could be blue, could be grey
Without you, I'm just miles away
Strawberry Swing, Coldplay
What if there was no time

All the things you got,
All the things you need
Who bought you cigarettes,
Who bribed the company to come and see you, honey

But if you wanna show, just let me know
And I'll sing in your ear again
